Decorative Commercial Lighting

Decorative commercial lights are important components of every outdoor lighting system.  Commercial decorative light fixtures are often smaller than purely functional outdoor lights and can be concealed for special lighting effects.  In most cases, high voltage and low voltage models of the same basic design are available.  There are hundreds of fixture types that contractors can install as decorative commercial lighting, and countless ways to use them to create a superior outdoor lighting experience.

Buildings

Even the most rudimentary forms of commercial architecture can benefit from a touch of decorative lighting.  By placing a few simple building lights a building’s perimeter, you can outline its form along the skyline.  If there is nothing really that attractive about the building itself, you can add a touch of color with energy efficient LED accent lights or gooseneck sign lights and change an otherwise drab façade into an attractive form of branding and advertising.

Walkways

Any institution with more than one building will have walkways that connect the various structures.  Lighting and decorating these structures helps create a sense of unity between the various buildings. Bollards, path lights, and rope lights are excellent light sources to use for this.  On larger properties, the illumination they create can be extended into the general landscape.  This helps create a feeling of unity between human structures and Nature.

Fountains, Ponds, and Waterfalls

Large commercial sites and public parks often decorate the landscape with fountains, ponds, and artificial waterfalls.  Any number of special luminary effects can be created in these features.  LEDs designed to operate underneath the water make decorative lights in pools or behind waterfalls themselves.  You can install red, green, amber, or blue LEDs and create a “rainbow” lighting effect.  When you are lighting fountains, decorative bollards, step lights, accent lights, and small floodlights can be used to direct white light toward the center.  Low voltage halogens and commercial fluorescent lights are good choices to use for floodlights.

Statues and Metal Sculptures

Commercial decorative light fixtures used to illuminate statues should be concealed as much as possible.  In most instances, they should be mounted in the ground or on the corners of the statue’s pedestal and used for up lighting.   It is important to illuminate the surface only enough to show its key features, but not to over light the entirety of the piece in an attempt to get rid of every shadow.  Shadows are actually essential to the three dimensional appearance of statues.  Without them, pieces look “flat” and lifeless.
