Commercial interior lighting applications range from office lighting to warehouse and factory lighting.  Each of these applications offers unique challenges to the electrical contractor.  The cost of operating fixtures, combined with the cost of regular maintenance, have to be examined in conjunction with front end purchase costs.  Ideally, you should be able to recommend equipment to your clients that will pay for itself over a period of time by saving money on repairs and power bills. 

 Thanks to new technology in halogen design,interior fluorescent lighting design, and new LED lighting, this is more possible now than ever before.

Halogen lamps have improved over the years in two respects.  First, they produce more lumens per watt than their predecessors, making it possible to illuminate more space with less actual power consumption.  Halogen fixtures often comprise the backbone of many commercial interior lighting applications.  They are most often found in warehouses, factories, and sports facilities that require bright, glare free lighting.  Newer lamps feature exceptional power saving technology and new optics that can distribute luminance for a variety of specialized applications. 

Recessed halogens are also ideal for any type of recessed lighting that needs to be dimmed.  You can save your clients a great deal of money by installing dimmable overhead lights in break rooms, restrooms, and conference rooms.  Reducing lighting levels also reduces power consumption and extends lamp life.  This allows clients to get more energy efficiency out of standard equipment than would otherwise be possible. 

Many new LED commercial interior lighting fixtures are now available that can be used for both general office lighting and dimmable lighting in special environments.  LED offers the longest lamp life of any type of lamp—over 50,000 hours, with as little as 10 percent the power consumption of older, incandescent lamps. 

The cost of LED commercial interior lighting is still too high for many smaller companies on budgets.  In these instances, we often recommend that contractors install a blend of interior fluorescent lights for general lighting purposes and halogen recessed lights whenever adjustability is required for environments that require variable levels of light for special tasks or special events.
