Case Study-Stovall Construction Joint Venture for Irving Texas McDonalds
RLLD Commercial Lighting assisted in the renovation of a flagship McDonalds located in Irving, TX. The renovation project was spearheaded by Stovall Construction, Inc. Stovall Construction is a reputable general contractor in the area that had been contracted to upgrade the decorative elements of an existing lighting system. Our function was to supply three decorative parking lot light poles.

RLLD frequently works as a consulting subcontractor under the auspices of an onsite general contractor. We supply three lines of support. The first of these is commercial lighting equipment that is only made in the USA. We strongly believe that only American-made products should be sold to our clients. Domestic manufacturers strive for higher levels of quality assurance, and they are more willing to customize and replace commercial lighting equipment under warranty if ever the need arises.

The second line of support is photometric light design planning which enables clients and general contractors to see a 3D model of our proposal. We also offer a third line of support as a technical support consultant to those who require guidance in the onsite configuration of oftentimes highly customized equipment such as the decorative parking lot light poles we sold in this project.

In this particular project, Stovall Construction had designed their own photometric layout in advance of contacting our firm. The locations of the poles had also be predetermined, so our responsibility lay exclusively in providing them with the most decorative parking lot light poles in our network of sources and supply these to the general contractor. Lighting levels were a secondary consideration in this project. General lighting was already in place with other fixture types. This gave us considerable freedom in selecting the most aesthetic pieces of equipment for the task at hand.

Careful review of our manufacturer sources led us to models that exceed the expectations of the general contractor. These dual head poles supported fixtures housing 250 watt metal halide lamps. They provided an ideal accent to existing layers of general light, but they were not so bright as to create glaring white spots in the parking area. This amounted to what we might call a soft touch addition to the restaurant’s outdoor lighting. The attraction factor for the establishment, while extremely subtle, is significantly increased by this.

As to the decorative parking lot light poles themselves, the body of each poles is made from cast aluminum which can be painted in a variety of standard or custom colors. Each pole, in turn, supports cast aluminum fixtures that house the metal halide lamps.

Special customizations to this project were made to enhance the poles’ aesthetic even further. None of the colors standard to these decorative parking lot lighting poles matched the exterior décor of the facility. Stovall Construction requested that we coat the special order a custom color to match the metallic treatment on the trellises and handrails of the restaurant exterior. This resulted in a subliminal extension of architectural keynote into the periphery of the parking lot where the light poles were mounted.
