Lemont, PA Granary Renovation using RLLD Commercial Lighting Exterior Gooseneck Lights.
The unique choice of exterior gooseneck lighting fixtures was based upon the client’s unique needs to find a luminaire that provided a near-exact match to late 19th Century building lights. Our client was the Lemont Village Association, a nonprofit 501-C3 organization which owned the Lemont Granary. This historical building was a landmark to the town of Lemont, Pennsylvania having been in existence since 1885. This building was a grain elevator and coal shed that had been built in 1885 and had been used consistently into the mid 1950s. Area farmers sold their harvested grains to the grain elevator owner, who in turn sold it to distant markets shipping by rail. After its use was discontinued, however, this historical landmark gradually fell into a state of disrepair. Not wanted to see the demise of a historic building that had once played such a vital role in Lemont’s position as an agricultural hub of the region, the LVA decided to purchase the structure in 1994. Plans were undertaken to restore the building to its original condition. The 1 acre parcel of land surrounding it was also purchased in order to accommodate a variety of local functions. Once the building was restored to its original condition, the LVA planned to use it as a seasonal meeting place and forum for special events, feasts, plays, art shows, farmers markets, holiday markets, and weddings.
The biggest challenge that the client was facing was that of décor.
The LVA did not want to put anything contemporary on the building that would detract from its historical appearance. At first they thought they attempted to locate fixtures with a classic look and high performance output. The initial retail channels they explored, however, turned up nothing.
After doing a web search, however, they found the RLLD Commercial Lighting website, where they found exterior gooseneck lighting fixtures that appeared to meet their criteria.
There were no real design considerations aside from the need to aesthetically compliment the historical architecture of the granary.
The selected exterior gooseneck lighting fixtures fit this criterion, so all the customer needed was the assurance that they would produce the necessary levels of outdoor lighting. The LVA initially ordered three fixtures to test their capabilities. Being pleased with what they saw, they ordered one more fixture for the building.
In this particular instance, there was no need to use our photometric design software. There were no municipal lighting standards and no county ordinances to comply with, so the LVA literally had free reign to choose their own architectural lights.
The luminaires used in this project were 150W RLLD exterior gooseneck light fixtures. RLLD exterior gooseneck light fixtures feature specification grade quality, with ¾ inch aluminum brackets and spun, galvanized steel, and heavy-duty reflectors. The client selected a high-gloss black, powder coat finish to match the historical architecture and period-style of the building.
Interior lighting fixtures were chosen to compliment outdoor architectural lights. These 200W ceiling mounted lights also reflected the same historical look and featured a pendant-style design.
