Beach Volleyball Court Lighting Fixture Kits

We were contacted by a resort in Florida that had a clubhouse and a volleyball court not too far from the bleach. A number of different types of volleyball matches were played on this court, and the resort wanted us to install lights that could be used for all levels of play. They also requested that we illuminate all outdoor areas under the stadium with the most energy efficient athletic sports field lights possible.

Although this was not a professional facility, it was nonetheless a very popular location for a number of local tournament games—many of which were televised. Normally, non-televised volleyball tournaments need anywhere from 50-100 foot candles of light on the court. Once TV cameras become involved, however, foot candle minimums go up to over 115 feet. In effect, our client required one volleyball stadium lighting system that could perform like three. This system also had to be mounted on poles that could take the battering of Florida Coast hurricanes. Decorative wooden poles would be out of the question, but we already had a very attractive alternative in mind.

Our principal approach to this undertaking was to install energy efficient lighting using volleyball court lights on three independent switch sets. Each switch would control a distinct group of fixtures that would produce the f/c levels necessary recreational, tournament, and televised play. So that we could generate increasingly higher levels of light and simultaneously eliminate glare, we used IES files with our photometric lighting software to study the output generated by various fixture types and optics options. This allowed us to determine the specifications for each fixture install and calculate the very best lighting angles that would produce an evenly-lit court without reflected glare. We also calculated the location of television cameras and made further fine-tuning adjustments to both direction and optics requirements to prevent spill light from interfering with camera lenses.

The resort was delighted with our proposal and was more than happy to invest in our innovative design work. After viewing our prior art and lighting case studies they purchased three dimensional models created by our software and passed them to a local contractor hired for the installation. He had agreed o do the job in 2/3 the normal time if such a systematic layout of the proposed system could be made available.

Even though we could not used wooden poles because of wind zone laws, we were able to locate rust-colored, galvanized steel light poles that looked like decorative wooden poles. For outdoor areas underneath the bleachers, we specified pulse-start metal halide low bays that provide bright light around concession areas and restrooms.

Commercial Interior Lighting

Interior lighting design often establishes and creates the quality of a commercial environment. Office space depends on the quality of interior lighting to create an ergonomic and motivated workspace that will contribute to higher productivity and profits. Everything from morale to corporate culture can be affected by a change in the interior lighting. We have several lighting case studies that illustrate the values of good lighting. Commercial factories and warehouse facilities rely upon interior lighting directly for manufacturing and shipping. In their world, proper levels of glare free illumination are a necessity for safe and efficient processes. Some environments, such as manufacturing and assembly, rely so heavily on commercial interior lighting that their very survival depends upon its quality.

The best way to approach commercial interior lighting design is to first get a general picture of industry standard needs in this area in order to formulate a basic plan of attack in proposing a new system. This can be accomplished by reading lighting articles or by checking local lighting codes.

Industrial Organizations
Most manufacturing and warehousing operations care little for how a light looks. They are far more concerned with safety and cost effective operations. Commercial interior warehouse lights in these environments play a major role in ergonomics and employee well-being. Any darkness around the building represents major safety concerns to quality assurance. It is your first duty as a contractor in these environments to propose commercial interior lights that will evenly light all of a facilities floor space and provide sufficient foot candles in the vertical cube to allow for material handling tools such as fork trucks to be safely driven through the facility.

It is also necessary to consider the impact that heat can have on a large building. If you install commercial interior lighting fixtures that are inefficient with thermal management designs, HVAC costs will be higher. RLLD Commercial Lighting has a number of fluorescent, induction, and LED interior lighting fixtures specifically designed to operate at cooler temperatures. Thess, combined with their innate power saving designs, helps greatly reduce overhead for industrial clients and can often tip the balance in favor of your proposal.

Please keep in mind that industrial facilities are the most heavily regulated of all buildings, so it is crucial that you ensure that your client will meet with all OSHA and ANSI codes. If your client is interested in obtaining LEED certification, call an RLLD Commercial interior lighting design expert to find out about the latest energy efficient technology ideal for earning points toward a certificate.

Service Based Organizations
Good morale is a necessity ingredient to service based office environments. Commercial interior lighting here should blend the task and the decorative to produce an ergonomically sound as well as decorative quality of light. Normally, you would have to create multiple layers of both direct and indirect light to achieve such an effect, and you have to use a multitude of fixture types, mounts, and lamps.

One great way to minimize the number of actual light fixtures for a small company with a tight budget is to install commercial interior lighting controls. Dimmers and wireless remotes will make lighting customized to personal preference while simultaneously minimizing power consumption. The right commercial lighting controls can turn one set of interior lights into many by programming multiple themes into a central controller. These themes can be activated with wall boxes, and hand-held remotes to create different moods and levels of luminosity.

Retailers
Retail clients require interior lights that render color equivalent to that produced by natural daylight. The reason for this is obvious. Merchandise on the shelf must look as natural and good as possible to sell. Like offices, stores require multiple layers of light. Typically, one level of light illuminates the floor space for customers and staff, and the second layer of light focuses on product merchandising.

It is paramount absolutely essential that you choose the right commercial interior building lighting fixtures that will accomplish these tasks do this as cost effectively as possible. Retail profit margins are normally rather slim, so the more you offer trim a store’s electric, the more readily they will embrace both the technology and the design you propose.

Hospitality Clients
Hotels, country clubs, restaurants, and resorts need you to take an eclectic approach to commercial interior lighting. Virtually every location contains a variety of buildings whose interior architecture varies on a per room basis. Commercial interior lighting is able to create everything from general task lighting to special decorative and associative aesthetic themes. Most hospitality clients also expect you to use lamps, fixtures, mounts and accessories that specifically compliment the decorum and brand of the establishment. Usually, the more removed from mundane reality an organization seeks to be, the more elaborate and eclectic its commercial interior lighting system will need to be.

Stadium Sports Field Lighting

Stadium athletic field lighting must be installed with several objectives simultaneously in mind. Players must be able to see the ball in play and view the field without shadows or glare impeding visibility. Spectators should be able to look down from the bleachers and see colors clearly and watch the movement of the ball smoothly and continuously. If too few stadium lights are installed, footcandles will be too low to evenly light the vertical cube within the stadium, and the ball will appear to jump from point to point in mid-air. As easy as it may sound to try to resolve this issue simply by installing a larger number of lights, stadiums systems must be planned a bit more carefully than this. Dark Sky laws strictly prohibit light spillage into surrounding neighborhoods now exist in almost every part of the country. Stadium lighting systems must target the light in such a way that it only illuminates desired areas within the stadium and does not generate wasted spill light that will annoy nearby residents and business owners.

The type of stadium lights installed depends greatly upon the skill level of the players and the number of spectators. The greater the number of spectators, the greater the distance they tend to be seated away from the field and the players. This means the lights must brighter and also more precisely aimed in order to minimize glare and light pollution. Many times a facility hosts different types of sports in the same facility, so this can further complicate the demands on the contractor installing a system for multiple events and different sized crowds. By working with RLLD Commercial Lighting experts, measurements of the facility, its annual usage reports, and the general sizes of crowds attending different events can all be factored efficiently into determining the necessary levels of lighting for a small or mid-sized stadium of any size.

With the exception of large professional baseball stadiums beyond the scope of this article, there are only two classifications out of the industry standard four with which we need to concern ourselves: Class 2 Stadium Lighting and Class 3 Stadium Lighting. Class 2 lighting involves illuminating a field containing up to 5,000 spectators. Class 3 addresses the dynamics of lighting stadiums for much smaller crowds, such as those seen at intramural college games and local amateur league games. Class 4 sports lighting really doesnʼt fall into the category of stadium lighting, because it involves recreational and practice fields with limited seating, if any.

With all this to factor into the equation, it is important for even trained professionals to avail themselves of the complimentary consulting and design services offered by RLLD Commercial Lighting. Particularly in respect to environmental concerns, the many codes and regulations that govern light pollution in a given city, town, or county may significantly impact a contractorʼs selection of stadium light fixtures and poles. Saving a step on laborious data mining and cross-referencing local legal requirements to technical features saves time and money in equipment selection, proposal preparation, and installation.

By utilizing our online and phone-based resources, you can very quickly and accurately determine the number of poles you need, the optics required for the correct dispersion of light, luminance levels, and the physical number and mounting heights of the fixtures themselves. Metal halide lamps are the industry standard for stadium lighting systems because they produce a very bright white light that renders color at a near equivalence to natural light. RLLD Commercial Lighting poles can be wooden, steel, or concrete and are available in a variety of heights and degrees of decorative aesthetics. Although stainless steel poles are the most common at this point, many facilities are beginning to replace them with centrifugally spun concrete poles.
Again, it is best to confer with an RLLD Commercial lighting expert when selecting stadium lighting poles. Our team has detailed wind load charts on every region of the country and can inform DIY electrical installers and lighting specialists of all EPA regulatory codes pertaining to a particular poles wind resistance capacity.

Volleyball Court Lighting Packages

Because of the rising popularity of private volleyball courts and recreational volleyball courts in neighborhood recreation areas, the floodlights of yesteryear are soon to become outdated and stand to be replaced by sharp cutoff volleyball court lighting fixtures with metal halide or high pressure sodium lamps. Cut-off style fixtures provide a higher level of control of volleyball lighting and minimize light spillage, making them the best choices for schools, churches, YMCAʼs, and even personal backyards in cities with very strict dark sky compliance laws. Cut-off style volleyball court lights also look more attractive than traditional shoebox lighting designs and serve to better compliment building architecture and surrounding landscapes.

RLLD Commercial Lighting offers a wide range of fixture types and lamp wattages for recreational and professional volleyball court lighting and can show you first hand with actual lighting case studies of completed projects. For private courts, we recommend that you consult with an electrician who can install this equipment, as a number of calculations have to be factored into the equation when choosing and installing lights for a volleyball court. The standard court normally measures 60ʼ by 30ʼ, although these dimensions can vary in a number of private settings and special recreational facilities.

Working with a trained expert in RLLD Commercial Lighting will save a contractor a great deal of time doing all the math necessary to make all the necessary adjustments needed to light a volleyball court that deviates in any respect from standard measurements. It is also necessary to take a number of additional factors into considerations as follows:

Pole and Fixture Placement
In most volleyball court lighting systems, it is a good idea to use one double lighting kit on either side of the court. RLLD Commercial Lighting has a number of wooden and steel poles that come in both standard and decorative designs. We also have mounting brackets that can be used to mount one or more fixtures to trees growing near the court.

As a general rule, add approximately 20ʼ to the vertical and horizontal dimensions of the court in order to light both the court and sideline areas.

Fixture Attributes
The sheik cutoff design that characterizes by RLLD Commercial Volleyball court lighting fixtures gives them a strong competitive advantage over other types of fixtures. They present a much less obtrusive, almost low-profile appearance compared to the more bulky shoebox lights that are often used for tennis court lighting. The cutoff design also delivers a qualitative advantage over floodlights because it lights only the volleyball court and sideline areas with minimal light spillage beyond the court itself.

Lamps can be ordered from RLLD Commercial Lighting either in high pressure sodium (good for repelling insects) or metal halide choices (ideal for white light that nears natural light in quality). Contact one of our specialists about the wattage and ballast options that best suit your particular facility.

Fixture Mounting Height
Our diversity of volleyball court lighting poles and mounts makes it simple and quick for contractors to find exactly what they need to position fixtures at exactly the height necessary to avoid blinding the eyes of players and creating light pollution. RLLD Commercial Lighting experts will also help contractors and design professionals determine which poles and mounts can best withstand any high winds in a given part of the country with charts and up-to-date information on EPA codes and requirements.

Quantity and Quality of Light
Working with a distributor like RLLD Commercial lighting gives the freelance lighting designer access to top commercial grade lamps and fixtures. This helps ensure that glare and light pollution are eliminated for the greater comfort, safety, and enjoyment of the game. RLLD Commercial Lighting specialists will provide complimentary phone-based consulting to clients and serious inquirers and detailed advisory services for a small fee to the casual inquirer. Tennis Court Lights & Tennis Court Lighting Packages

The most effective tennis court lighting fixtures are forward throw fixtures which feature either precision optics or cut off designs that focus maximized lighting levels on the court and minimize glare from surrounding viewpoints. Tennis court lighting design should always be developed with two simultaneous objectives in mind: lighting the court and lighting the ball in play. Optimal illumination depends on striking this balance, and this balance in turn depends upon several other factors such as the number and location of light poles, the type and number of fixtures mounted on each pole, the size of the court, and the number of footcandles needed for the size and function of that court.

When all of these many factors are properly assessed and balanced together with one another, a uniform distribution of the light and non-glare optics is achieved. Ideal tennis court lighting should illuminate the entire court and extend approximately 6ʼ beyond the sidelines and 10ʼ behind the base lines. Metal Halide luminaries are the most common HID source used for tennis court lighting.

Choosing the Right Tennis Court Lights, Poles, and Accessories
Customers can go to our online sports lighting store and buy individual lighting fixtures, supplies, and individual light poles and lamps. Typically, fixtures come equipped with a 1000 watt, Metal Halide bulb. These sports lights are manufactured for both residential and commercial applications, so customers have the flexibility of installing these devices in a variety of settings. RLLD Commercial tennis court light poles come in a variety of heights and can be used for narrow, tournament, and club size tennis courts. For the convenience of both professional designers and certified electricians contracted by homeowners, we have created tennis court lighting packages that are specifically approved and designed for six standard tennis court layouts.

A few additional points bear further attention. Some of our tennis court lighting kits feature a double lamp pole light fixture. This offers a more even spread of illumination and a different look compared to that produced by a conventional, single lamp pole. We also offer quad light poles that have four die cast light fixtures for a distinctive appearance, and we include all necessary accessories for these lighting kits, include mounting hardware, brackets, and lamps. RLLD Commercial Lighting tennis court light kit designs can also be used with basketball and volleyball courts, or any other type of athletic or sports lighting area that requires superior lighting for game purposes. We have tennis lights for club or tournament courts, and we also have packages for single and dual playing fields as well.

Tennis Court Fixture Mounting Methods

In tennis court lighting you can choose between low-mast and high-mast pole configurations. Generally speaking, residential tennis court lighting is better accomplished with low-mast lighting, while high mast lighting is used in areas where higher light levels are required. Low-mast systems used in conjunction with sharp cut-off luminaries produce good uniformity, low glare, reduced amounts of spill light and are relatively easy to maintain.

Country clubs, resorts, five star hotels, and municipal parks can select from over 40 sports lights specifically designed for tennis courts and athletic field lighting. We also have many tennis court lighting articles that go into some Call an RLLD Commercial Lighting Specialist now for detailed suggestions on how to use these high-end, durable tennis court lights and accessories. Baseball Field & Ball Park Lights

The best lights for a baseball field or stadium are not the brightest possible lights, but rather the most evenly distributed, glare-free athletic sports field lighting fixtures. Too often, DIY electricians overspend when buying baseball field lights, either buying both too many fixtures or getting fixtures with too high a wattage output. This not only creates more exorbitant front-end costs, but it also generates higher lighting bills and can also create glare for smaller baseball diamonds. Professional designers know that retail grade baseball and softball lights pre-mounted to poles simply will not place Americaʼs Game in the right kind of light. Advanced foot-candle calculations based upon the size and location of the field must first be worked out in advanced, then commercial grade fixtures with sophisticated reflectors must be selected and positioned at exactly the right height on poles in order to produce maximum lumens per wattage efficiency. This is critical for mid-air lighting of the ball in play, and something that fixed-mounted light pole fixtures cannot provide. Also, pre-configured baseball lighting will almost always degrade more rapidly when exposed to extremes in weather, and when they begin to rust, they present an unsightly nuisance that eventually exposes wires to humidity and creates short circuit and possible fire hazard.

While commercial grade baseball and football field lights do represent a front end for the small town, peewee league, little league, or church camp, they can nevertheless be purchased from RLL Design at competitive prices on the front end, and they be configured in such a fashion as to create a energy-saving return on investment on the back end. This is why so many small towns, camps, and churches on a budget rely upon us for baseball lighting fixtures, poles, mounts and accessories. RLL Design specialists add years of consultation and lighting expertise to the proposal of the professional looking to generate savings and ROI, and they add consultative value to the knowledge of the do-it-yourselfer at a savings of cost-per-hour labor fees. Many clients are often amazed when they see how less can truly be more when it comes to baseball field and stadium lighting case studies. For example, a small little league field seldom needs more than one or two 1000-watt lamps along the baseline, and a single or double 400-watt baseball light over home plate. Determining the exact wattage to choose and where to install the fixture requires calculation of the size and location of the field and detailed knowledge of light pollution laws in oneʼs area. Having this knowledge available from your baseball light fixture supply distributor is an added value that saves you time preparing proposals and prevents costly mistakes when you decide to install the purchase and lights yourself.

Savings arenʼt limited to the small town or non-profit organization only, either. RLLD baseball lights are controlled by advanced ballast technology that renders superior electron flow, making them ideal for larger baseball stadiums and professional league lighting. RLLD baseball lights are designed to resist corrosion in a multitude of climates. Featuring a powder coated die cast housing with formed aluminum lids, they can endure a greater level of stress from wind and rain. These baseball light fixtures further protect lamp life with tempered flat glass insulated with gasket seals and aluminum clamp bands. By adding anodized aluminum reflectors to magnify lumens output and photometric distribution, you can further customize each fixture and achieve greater lighting levels with less power consumption. With the help of your RLLD sports lighting specialist, you can choose from types 3, 4, 5, or 6 optics to achieve maximum visibility for safe play.

Superior ballasts also extend the lamp life of RLLD baseball lighting fixtures and produces a more reliable, consistent spread of illumination necessary for lighting a larger stadium. For optimal results, it is best for both contractors and DIY electricians to work with a sports lighting design experts who will help them purchase poles and fixtures separately, then configure them into a specialty kit or custom lighting design. Each baseball field is unique, so a variety of mounting brackets is also required to achieve precise positioning of light fixtures on poles so that directional angle of incidence is optimized and glare is minimized.

For baseball fields with have light poles already mounted in place, you can work with one of our specialists who will fit them with new mounting arms and light fixtures. Our baseball sports lighting fixtures can also be mounted on any number of pole types and wall mounts, making them multi-functional for other types of sports and recreation. This is an added value we like to pass on to contractors competitively bidding jobs for clients who have very limited procurement budgets, and it also serves to help smaller facilities looking to self-install a lighting system that can serve many needs at once.

RLL Design understands that both professional and end-user clients simply do not have the time to do all the lighting research and calculation necessary to effectively develop a baseball or sports arena lighting system. To help serve these organizations and individuals, we staff a team of Experts who will answer any question in our online forum, and we will help any serious inquiries over the phone.

Photometric Lighting Analysis & Design

Obtaining a 3-D photometric report on your client’s property is perhaps the best thing you can do to ensure maximum efficiency of the commercial lighting system you install and maximum long-term client satisfaction with the operability and overall aesthetic impact of that system. Photometric analysis software, however, is often far outside the price range of small lighting design firms and independent electrical contractors. Typically, only the larger firms have the budget to purchase photometric analysis software and the manpower to use it. Smaller companies and individuals are therefore at a clear disadvantage when it comes to proposing new equipment. That is, unless they can find a partner company who has photometric analysis software that can generate reports for them.

This is precisely why RLLD Commercial Lighting invested in photometric analysis software—to give the independent contractor and the small lighting design firm a competitive advantage that was previously unavailable to them. Using this software, we can create one or more reports on your client’s location that will enable us to select the very best luminaires for the new system. The square footage, vertical cube space, and general layout of your client’s facility is input into our photometric analysis software first. This data can then be used to generate foot candle charts and photometric reports that pinpoint the very best locations to install lighting fixtures. These reports can be printed both as technical spec sheets and as user friendly documents complete with pictures and general descriptions for end user review. Having a document like this to place alongside of your proposal gives you additional negotiating power with your client and proves to the decision maker you have thoroughly understood their needs and done your homework in response.

For indoor lighting case studies, photometric analysis software allows us to work on a room by room basis. We can run different scenarios through the system according based on either hypothetical luminance levels or fixtures in the room. This allows us to identify potential problem areas where objects in the room may cast dark shadows and disrupt the aesthetic and obscure visibility. Knowing where these problems areas are most likely to pop up helps us recommend both the best luminaire models and pinpoint the optimal angles at which to mount them and quote lighting packages.

Because we supply commercial warehouse lighting fixtures from a number of different manufacturers (all based in the United States), it is important to consider all options before making a final choice. Each manufacturer offers unique fixture designs and energy efficiency safeguards, and lamp life varies as well between the various proprietary designs. What may be the best fixture to use in a small, single building office may not be the best choice for a multi-building site or office park.

The software actually contains manufacturer’s spec sheets and engineering documents on specific fixtures in different categories. These reports can be pulled and a luminaire comparison report instantly generated that details fixture optics, lumens per watt efficiency, and expected lamp life. Cross referencing light levels and fixture placement reports with specific data on each fixture made by a leading US lighting manufacturer hones the effectiveness of the photometric analysis to a razor-edge precision.

While we do charge a fee for photometric analysis, we refund the amount in full should you move forward in a business relationship with RLLD Commercial Lighting and purchase your commercial landscape lighting equipment from us. Casual inquirers and companies seeking adjunct support are nonetheless welcome to call us and purchase a report to use in any project and are under no obligation to buy commercial lighting products in conjunction with the report.

In either case, we are here to help the independent contractor gain a competitive advantage on a more athletic level playing field.

Softball Field Sports Lighting

Any softball field of any size provides a more enjoyable game for players and fans if it is well-lit with specification grade softball field lighting fixtures. Although many organizations on tight budgets are often tempted to invest in cheaper retail grade luminaires and mounts, it never serves them in the long run. Cheap equipment breaks down more quickly and results in replacement costs. Retail grade softball field lights are also less energy efficient and cost more to operate. Many also fall short of the latest athletic field lighting codes that govern wattage per square foot and do not provide adequate glare shielding to distribute the light in a bright-yet comfortable- field of luminance.

When lighting a softball field, it is almost always better to assess a number of factors pertaining to facility and build a custom lighting system specific to its parameters and usage. Because footcandle minimums are different for fast pitch, tournament play and recreational, slow pitch games, it is necessary to first determine which type of game is played within the field. Knowing this up front will help you calculate the specific number of lighting poles and luminaires required to light the facility. Because energy codes are becoming stricter throughout the country, it is also crucial that you select softball field lights with superior lumen per watt ratios in order to light more square footage with fewer physical components. This goes long way toward reducing power bills and creating a tangible return on investment for clients like churches and non-profits. Optics technology is another important factor to consider when it comes to creating the necessary glare free lighting that safe play and spectator comfort demands. Inferior optical reflectors will cast off too much spill light, blinding eyes and encroaching on surrounding neighborhoods. Specification grade reflectors in a variety of optical styles create self-contained fields of luminance that are fully compliant with even the toughest of codes. Because dark sky laws vary throughout the nation, and because sports facilities are often located in both urban and rural areas, anything from a type 2 to a type 6 anodized aluminum reflectors may be in order.

More often than not, recreational softball field lighting requires lower footcandle minimums for safety and enjoyable play. Since spectators are either limited in number or altogether absent (as in the case with most practice games) the goal is to provide the players themselves with glare free light so they can see where the ball is at all times. A proper balance of vertical lighting and horizontal lighting can be easily achieved with a minimum of equipment. A single 400W softball lighting fixture installed near home plate is generally all that is necessary for lighting the infield. Ask one of our lighting experts about poles and mounts best suited to smaller fields.

Tournament Softball Lighting and polo field lighting is a bit more complex because it involves lighting not only for the players, but also for crowds of spectators. Footcandle levels here must be higher so all parties involved can see the ball in play without it appearing to “jump” or “hop” from point to point in mid-air. Tournament softball fields tend to be large, so they almost always require lights in the outfield as well as the infield. Inadequate lighting here will make the ball appear to hop mysteriously from point to point in mid-air, making the game difficult to follow. However, if fast pitch softball lights are not equipped with the proper reflectors, they send glare into the eyes of spectators and players, and they could possibly generate complaints from neighbors and fine from dark sky regulatory authorities. The trick is to balance intensity against diffusion and precise distribution in order to avoid lighting one part of the field more than the other, and in order to avoid spilling light beyond the boundaries of the field itself.

Golf Course & Driving Range Lighting

Commercial lighting designers and certified electricians who work resorts and country clubs will find a complete selection of golf lights in RLL Design’s inventory of driving range lights and putting green fixtures, lamps, and mounts. A full stock of golf lighting accessories is also maintained so that the contractor or DYI installer can utilize our site as a one shop depot of commercial grade lighting equipment. In order to fulfill the needs of both the sophisticated country club and the public driving range, lighting fixtures can be ordered in any number of finishes that provide durable protection from the elements and aesthetic compliments to a particular facilities. Fiscally conservative organizations with a cost-consciousness for energy costs can greatly benefit from any number of options in low voltage putting green lights or high voltage HID golf course lights. These fixtures use far less power than incandescent-based lamp technology and dispel shadows with glare-free lighting that allows for accurate shots at any hour of the night. Resorts and country clubs will also appreciate the eclectic range of both wood and steel poles and sports lighting poles that can be utilized for any number of eclectic design combinations to compliment outdoor lighting and exterior architecture.

For the convenience of both commercial lighting specialists and staff electricians performing a DYI lighting installation, we divide our golf lights into two categories: putting green lights and driving range lights. In many cases, larger driving ranges require custom lighting designs using either 400-watt or 1000-watt fixtures that mount on steel or wooden poles available by contacting your RLL Design lighting specialist. These specialists add competitive advantage to the services offered by individual electricians and professional lighting firms by helping them to quickly match fixtures to mounts and fulfill the design requirements of small courses and high-end establishments alike.

Putting green lights can be requisitioned in either high voltage or low voltage models. Fluorescent 120V lamps are so energy efficient that they feature a bulb life of up to 10,000 hours. This offers a competitive advantage to the contractor proposing a system to a client concerned about replacement costs in the midst of the recession, as it offers any organization the benefit of a single purchase that will last for many years. Additionally, these putting green lights can even be adjusted for softer lighting conditions, decorative landscape lighting, or special theme lighting on the golf course during special times of the year such as Christmas,. Halogen lamps can also be ordered in a variety of wattages. All lamps are fully protected by durable Solite tempered glass that prevents ball impacts from breaking the bulb. These putting green lights look impeccable when mounted on RLL Design’s sheik, black pedestals that provide an all around compliment for a wide range of residential, private, municipal parks, and adjacent building architecture.

Smaller golf courses that are considering contracting a local electrician to install driving range lights and putting green lights should emphasize to their vendor the importance of using only commercial grade golf lights. Many freelance electricians may offer a savings bundled into their proposals by recommending retail driving range and putting green light fixtures as a cost cutting options. This is never advisable for a number of reasons. Retail-grade lighting lenses offer much less impact resistance to golf balls and will often break- resulting in both replacement costs and additional labor rates. Wiring is also generally inferior in retail golf light fixtures, deteriorating more rapidly and resulting in short circuits shorter lamp life. Investing only a marginally larger amount in equipment that will last several years longer represents a single purchase that is both fiscally recession proof and aesthetically superior because of a greater variety in finish, mounting, and customized design options.

Creating a golf course lighting design that illuminates the greens and compliments aesthetic décor may take more than technical fixture selection to serve the needs of a resort or exclusive country club. Contractors, electricians, and employees conducting a DYI installation can rely upon RLL Design for online and phone-based consultation and planning services offered complimentary to new clients and serious inquirers.

Athletic Sports Field Lighting

RLLD Commercial Lighting athletic and sports field lights can be used to illuminate any type of arena, stadium, playing field, or sports center. Similar to floodlights, these fixtures can mount on metal or wooden poles and deliver evenly distributed, glare free lighting of game areas, spectator stands, concession areas, and areas leading from the parking lot to the stands. RLLD athletic and sports field lighting fixtures feature multi-tap ballast controls in voltages of 120, 208, 240, 277, and even 408V. Athletic and sports field lighting fixtures can either be 400 or 1500 watts in strength.

With such diversity, lighting design professionals and DIY installers can build a custom sports lighting system specific to the dimensions of their facility. Such a system will use power more efficiently and produce optimal foot-candles and color rendering for nighttime arena activity.

Certain customized athletic field lighting kits can be obtained from RLL Design. These kits have been pre-configured by lighting design experts on our staff who combine their expertise of technology with a keen awareness of the needs of particular, individual sports. DIY clients will benefit greatly by investing in these kits, because each sports lighting kit represents a singe purchase solution to the complex demands of an entire facility. Professional contractors will save time and money doing research into local light control regulations and calculations of necessary foot-candle minimums. By working in tandem with an RLL Design specialist, all of this information can be readily passed to the contractor at the time of purchase. Professionals can assure their clients that the sports lighting kits they propose meet with all safety requirements for a particular game and dark sky laws intended to limit light pollution in various areas.

DIY lighting installers often rely on RLLD’s trained team of lighting design experts to educate them in all pertinent light pollution laws when working in a new area, and to calculate optimal lighting levels needed for a specific size athletic field. This makes the installer’s ultimate choice of a lighting kit or custom lighting system more seamless, as our consulting process will quickly determine which poles, mounts, and fixture types are most needed to fulfill your requirements. Our reservoir of knowledge represents a professional level skill set available to the end user at the time of purchase at no additional charge. Extensive, ongoing consultation can also be arranged if necessary for a small, reasonable fee.

When selecting sports field lighting fixtures, poles, and accessories in any of the following athletic environments, it is best for both professional designers and DIY installers to rely on experts familiar with safety, power savings, and light pollution laws in order to avoid wasting time and possibly miscalculating one or two line items and buying the wrong equipment.

Soccer Field Lighting
Lighting a soccer field of any size depends greatly on the height of the poles you choose, which is why RLLD Commercial Lighting inventories a wide range of poles and pole mounting accessories so you can position your athletic field lights at that appropriate levels. RLLD will help you analyze the dimensions of your field, the nature of the surrounding area, and the lighting requirements in your community. We will then combine this data and develop the schematic for your soccer field lighting system. This helps make the choice of fixtures, mounts, and poles much more efficient and cost effective for both the professional and DIY installer alike.

Baseball Field Lighting
Our baseball lighting fixtures feature sophisticated optics and advanced reflectors that generate superior lumens per watt output in comparison to other lights. The advantage this offers becomes immediately clear when smaller communities and organizations can invest in smaller sports lighting fixtures and achieve the same results as inferior grade fixtures operating at higher wattages and temperatures. Professional baseball field lighting designers often win bids when they point out that safer conditions and more efficient use of power carry a built-in return on investment, giving their proposal stronger negotiating power when bidding on jobs for municipalities, little league associations, churches, and summer camps.

Softball Field Lighting
Softball field lighting fixtures feature advanced anodized reflectors in 2, 4, 5, or 6 optic measurements that are engineered to increase lumens per watt output. This offers a powerful competitive advantage in situations where clients are operating on tight budgets. Often, recreational softball field lights require only 400W fixtures strategically positioned for effective lighting. This energy efficiency of a lower wattage system allows contractors to win bids in even the most competitive environments, and opens the doors for them to service everyone from small churches, rural school districts, and homeowners associations.

Volleyball Court Lighting
Most recreational volleyball courts can be effectively lit with a general area sports lighting kit. Fixtures housing high-pressure sodium lights provide excellent illumination and also work to repel insects. Clients who cannot afford custom volleyball court lighting system design can still light their recreational courts with RLLD's helpful experts and prefab volleyball lighting kits.

Basketball Court Lighting
Metal Halide sports lighting fixtures make any basketball court look like a professional, all-star court regardless of its size. Basketball court lights feature 400W and 1000W forward die cast fixtures, Davit style mounting brackets, and mounting hardware and base cover. With the assistance of an RLLD Commercial Lighting expert, both professionals and DIY lighting installers can custom build a sports lighting system for any outdoor basketball court. Professionals can streamline their proposals with expert advice and special athletic lighting kits designed for recreational, half-sized, and full-size basketball courts, or they can customize systems for any client by purchasing fixtures, mounts, and a wide variety of light poles separately with the help of their RLL Design representative.

Rodeo & Horse Arena Lighting
Equestrian arena and rodeo lights come in 400W and 1000W MH lamps that feature a powder coated die cast housing with a formed aluminum lid. Engineered to weather extremes of temperature in all US geographies, these full cutoff sports lighting fixtures also feature tempered flat glass lenses and gaskets with clamp band glare shielding. Made for flexibility in lighting design, equestrian sports lighting fixtures can be customized separately or purchased in a variety of kits for DIY installation.

Golf Course & Driving Range Lighting
RLLD Commercial Lighting golf lights feature Solite-tempered, powerful, impact resistant glass. Halogen lamps provide clear lighting of greens throughout all hours of the night. Longer bulb life of up to 10,000 hours significantly offsets replacement costs, and added value comes to high-end golf course and driving range light clients who can adjust the level of lighting themselves to create soft lighting or even seasonal lighting effects for special events and holidays.

Football Field Lighting Fixtures
Football field athletic lighting fixtures feature lamps made from fine, tempered glass. Because football field lighting systems are normally highly customized, RLLD Commercial Lighting inventories a wide selection in poles and also 2, 3, and 4 light angle cross arm bars to build custom lighting systems. More precision in building custom systems means greater control of light pollution and minimal glare for players and spectators. RLLD Design specialists are experts in foot-candle plotting and can even help you design an athletic field lighting system for a multi-function facility so you or your client can enjoy year-round use of the grounds during the off-season.

Tennis Court Lighting
Tennis court lighting kits are configured by RLLD sports lighting experts to produce optimal foot-candle levels and excellent color rendering. A variety of optical systems and sophisticated reflectors keep the light centered in the court and avoid spilling it into surrounding buildings and homes. A wide range of light poles allows the installer to precisely position tennis court lights to allow you to clearly see both the court and the ball in play. Custom tennis court lighting systems can also be developed with the help of an RLLD Commercial lighting design consultant to ensure full compliance of United States Tennis Court and Track Building Association.
