Historic Granary Lighting Case Study

Historic Granary In Lemont Pennsylvania Restored using RLLD Exterior Gooseneck Lighting Fixtures
Our client was the Lemont Village Association, a nonprofit 501-C3 organization which owned the Lemont Granary. This historic landmark, built in 1885, had been central to the importance of Lemont, Pennsylvania. This building was a grain elevator and coal shed that had been played a crucial role in the position of Lemont as a regional agricultural hub up until the mid 1950s. After this time, however, the building fell into disuse and disrepair.

Not wanted to see the collapse of a historic building that had once been so important to this community. After the LVA purchased it, along with a surrounding 1 acre parcel, plans were drawn up to renovate the building. The intention was to use the site as a location for numerous local functions. Once the building was restored to its historical condition, the LVA aimed to use it to host a seasonal meetings, special events, feasts, plays, art shows, farmers markets, holiday markets, and weddings.

The most pressing challenge was finding a luminaire that looked historically authentic.
The Lemont Village Association did not want to install any contemporary lighting on the building that would diminish its historical look. At first they thought he would simply find fixtures that had a classic look and offer the high performance output he was seeking. The initial retail channels he investigated, however, provided him with nothing. He also faced the same challenge with interior lighting fixtures, which were equally difficult to find. After searching online, however, they located RLLD Commercial Lighting and liked the look and performance rating of our exterior gooseneck lighting fixtures.

There were no real design concerns other than the need to aesthetically match the historicity of the structure.
Because our exterior gooseneck commercial lighting fixtures looked much like 19th century lights, all the LVA needed to be sure of was that they would produce the desired levels of levels of outdoor lighting. They ordered three fixtures to test lighting output, and, liking what they saw, ordered one more fixture for the building.

In this particular instance, there was no need to use our photometric design software.
There were no municipal lighting codes and no county ordinances to meet, so the LVA literally had free reign to choose their decorative outdoor lights.

The luminaires ultimately purchased by the LVA 150W RLLD exterior goose neck light fixtures.
RLLD exterior gooseneck light fixtures are specification grade quality made specifically for commercial lighting. They feature ¾ inch aluminum brackets and spun, galvanized steel and heavy-duty reflectors. The models chosen by the client featured a high-gloss black, powder coat finish that matched the historical architecture of the building.

Interior light fixtures were also purchased to compliment outdoor architectural lights. These 200W ceiling mounted lights that reflected the same historical look and featured a pendant-style design.

We are able to offer such as sweeping diversity of products and scope support because of the unique relationships we enjoy with American light fixture manufacturers.

Unlike regional distributors who are often bound to quotas and exclusive, binding agreements, we operate nationwide without obligation to sell any particular product at any particular time. This allows us to take a very objective and impartial stance when providing our clients with equipment. In fact, most of our clients already know exactly what lighting products they want for their projects and simply call us to locate the best source, price, and equipment features specific to their needs. This allows us to expand our sphere of service from simply being a distributor of equipment to being an lighting design advisor, consultative partner in the preparation of your proposal.

When you call us, you get a live sales representative on the phone trained in all aspects of commercial lighting who can answer detailed questions about specifications, applications, and customization options.

Sales agents at RLLD Commercial Lighting will take the time to understand the nature of your project in order to pinpoint exactly what fixtures and lamps are ultimately most suitable for your client. Our sales representatives will work with you from conception to analysis, from specification to procurement, maintaining an ongoing dialogue and providing you with a wealth of information you can pass to your clients as they ask questions. We also will conduct a full photometric analysis of any client’s site using advanced lighting design and planning software that we have obtained at great expense. When you order equipment from us, we will deduct the cost of the photometric lighting analysis from the price of the equipment. For select products, we offer turnkey installation services throughout the United States, making us truly a one source supply house, consulting firm, and installation partner to your organization.

Because our reach is nationwide, and because we work in direct partnership with lighting manufacturers all over the United States, we can handle bulk procurement with much greater efficiency and expedition than local or regional brick and mortar vendors.

We can fast track rush orders in as little as two weeks, arranging for the lighting manufacturer to ship equipment directly to your client’s location. Because we do not rely on anyone but the manufacturers themselves for equipment, any retrofits or replacement parts that the manufacturer currently has in stock can be ordered and dropped shipped expeditiously with faster lead time than competing vendors typically can offer. Oftentimes, however, buying a replacement lighting fixture is more economical and profitable than locating replacement parts. As a courtesy, we always try to offer you second and third options to consider so your clients feel like they have more than one option as well and you have more negotiating power at the line item level.

One other thing that differentiates RLLD Commercial Lighting from other vendors is our relentless pursuit of energy saving solutions through power saving equipment, low voltage technology, and new emerging technologies that offer to ultimately transform the entire world of lighting.

We make it a point to offer our fixtures that feature the best energy ratings, highest lumens per watt output, glare shielding, reflectors, and optics. We are fully conscious and aware of the growing trend for municipalities to regulate both power consumption and light pollution. If you operate in more than one city, county, or state, keeping track of the many different laws that apply throughout your sphere of service may pose something of an inconvenience to you. Our specialists will be happy to help you with any research into local parking lot lighting codes to help you save time and focus on preparing an impeccable proposal.

We welcome you to our site and encourage you to contact us us often to participate in our community management program. This program will allow you to receive discounts on products and services, dialogue with experts, receive referrals for new business, and participate in incentive programs for contractors who volunteer testimonials and lighting design suggestions.
